On this blog I want to talk about the songs that are connected with race and gender. I think it's a good and different way to show how these topics are dealed in the music's world. My goal is to show you in each post a different song and the way that I understand it.
This first song I'm posting is one of my favourite songs. I have pick up it because it talks about we, the world, everybody, without distinguishish between gender, race, religion or country. The group who sings it is called “Los Delinquentes”, and they play a mix of the tipically spanish music (flamenco) and rock. And the song's name is “Somos”, that translated to Spanish is “We are”. I like this song because of its lyric and its music. If you hear it and read its lyrics, you can see how they talk about our virtues and shortcomings.

Los Delinquentes - Somos (Laboratorio de ritmo)
Nacimos, crecimos, y los huevos pusimos,
en la cesta de mimbre nos reproducimos
por ser vividores por muchas razones .
Animales, humanos, se ve que cantamos,
personas que nacen con piernas y manos.
Llegamos, tocamos y después miramos.
Somos caraduras vestimos con pluma,
somos raíces que sueñan, somos de papel.
Somos laboratorios de ritmo,
fresquitos sin accesorios,
somos el cable que enciende tu luz.
Somos todo lo que quieras tú.
Somos coyote y avestruz.
Los Delinquentes - We are (Rhythm laboratory)
We bore, we grew, and we layed the eggs,
in the wicker basket we breed
because we are pleasure seekers because of a lot of reasons.
Animals, humans, we sing,
People who bear with legs and hands.
We arrive, we touch and then we look (it refers to play hide-and-seek)
We are cheeky svaine and we dress with feathers,
we are roots that dream, we are made of paper.
We are rhythm laboratories,
we are nerve without accesories,
we are the cable that turn on your light.
We are all that you want,
we are coyote and road runner.
We are the wind, we are the warm, we are a hole in your trousers.
We are little and savage.
We are brave, because I say it, all of us have the reason,
we are cleverer than the animals.
I lock up your round anger, I bundle it up, I stretch it and I put it as a carpet,
and I beat the teeth myself.
To fly is my challenge, I gret myself and I try it.
We want swim in the cloud's water,
we are streamer that flyes with the wind.
We are energy, the night and the day, we are free birds.
We win to lose.
We are a dictionary with new songs in your calendar,
we are puppets that want to learn.
We are you and all they want, we are uglier tan the monkeys.
We are the wind, we are the warm, we are a hole in your trousers.
We are little and savage.
We are brave, because I say it, all of us have the reason,
we are cleverer than the animals.
Probably, after you hear the song and read the lyrics translated to English, you have not understand nothing. That's because this group used to explain itself with a lot of Spanish set phrases, and it has been very difficult to me to translate the song.in the wicker basket we breed

In short, that te song wants to say is that all we are the same, we usually do and we like the same things, doesn't matter who we are, where we are from or if we are male or female.
Pienso que las palabras son hermosas. Hago mejor en francés, pero en yo siempre trato de romper el divide. Necesito para encontrar en YouTube. Si usted envía una canción, puedele también me da un lazo. Aprecio que usted me tomando allí.
ResponderEliminarFirst of all I really enjoyed the video, it was fun and interesting to watch. I like your idea of choosing to write your blogs about music and how it interprets race and gender in the media.
ResponderEliminarI like that there are musicians out that and music groups that make songs dedicated to showing the world that we are essentially all the same, no matter who we are. Sure we are unique in our own ways but we are all human and we should treat each other that way. With respect and tolerance.
I also have never seen Play It Again Sam. I'm assuming from what you wrote that it is about directors, white actors playing black people, and making movies? That is pretty crazy to think not too long ago they were using white actors to play black people. Since it is a Woody Allen film i should probably watch it! :)
I thought this was a good blog. I like the blog because though we may speak different languages music is something we can all relate to. You were right about one thing, I did not understand much of the song lyrics you posted but your explanation made me think of some American songs that have a similar message. Michael Jackson has a song call “Black or White”. The premise of the song is that it doesn’t matter what color you are we are one in the same. I have posted the lyrics below though I think Michael Jackson is world-renowned and I have no doubt you have heard this song. Another song I thought of is called “We Shall be Free” by Garth Brooks. He is a native Oklahoman and sings country music. Here is one line from the song that always stood out in my head: When the last thing we notice,
ResponderEliminarIs the color of skin.
And the first thing we look for,
Is the beauty within.
When the skies and the oceans,
Are clean again.
Then we shall be free.
Anyway, good blog. Interesting to read.
